The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Parent Teacher Organization is a very active and valuable partner in the school community. Its mission is to provide a voice to enhance the quality of the educational, cultural, and social environments for the students, parents, and faculty. It promotes effective communication, develops and sponsors programs to address current social issues and concerns, and provides many special touches that add to NSA's warm, friendly atmosphere. Fund-raising efforts provide guest speakers, professional and social programs, and gifts to enhance the school community. "An organization providing a voice to enhance the quality of the educational, cultural, and social environments for the students, parents, and faculty of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy." The NSA Parent-Teacher Organization is a support organization that encourages a working unity among the many components of our school, and we strive for excellence in all educational, cultural, and social programs. All parents and guardians of NSA students, plus its faculty and administrators, are members of the PTO. The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the operation of the PTO. There are currently 23 members, each serving a 2 year term. The Officers and Members of the 2005 - 2006 PTO Board Dewing, Mary Hardee, Teresa Johnson, Brooke Manno, Cindy Dennis Ryan Wersner, Scott Upper School Rep. Martha Maurno Lower School Rep. Gwen Higgins PTO staff meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month except December. PTO general meetings for all members are held at least twice a year, in the fall and winter. There is also a Fall Forum / Workshop session that features speakers and topics of interest. Occasionally PTO will host special open sessions to provide a forum for discussion of specific concerns. In the past these meetings have covered such topics as traffic, substance abuse, and fundraising. Special events sponsored annually by the PTO include the Back to School Teachers' Luncheon in August, the Gift Wrap Fund Raiser in September, and a $2500 Cash Raffle. PTO publishes the annual School Directory in the Fall, and encourages parents to communicate with each other concerning off-campus alcohol/drug-free events for our students. The PTO serves the students, parents and teachers of NSA. Contact any board member if you have any questions or concerns. Just like you each of us has a busy schedule. But volunteering time to NSA is an investment in your child's future. The PTO serves NSA with the following committees:
We can always use your input on one of these committees. Our names and phone numbers can be found in the school directory. Look forward to hearing from each of you. |
