A Little Break

Last week Bente, Melissa, and I attended the annual ldsehe home school conference at the SVU campus in Buena Vista. It was so good to get away and recharge. We stayed up late talking, doing pedicures, talking, eating chocolate, and talking. It was wonderful!

For the most part we attended the same classes, but each one of us received a different message that was exactly what we needed to hear.

Let’s do it again next year!!!

This is the main building at Southern Virginia University. Isn't it amazing?

Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou!

Attending church with a toddler sure is interesting. Last Sunday Raina did very well and almost made it through Sacrament meeting. Almost. With about fifteen minutes left she started fussing. It quickly escalated to the point where we knew we had to take her out. So Matthan picked her up and as soon as he started walking she calmed down and started saying over and over again (loudly), "thank you". The whole way out "thank you, thank you, thank you" She sure knows how to make an exit. She left the whole congregation smiling. The ironic part is that once she was out in the foyer she was happy to sit calmly on daddy's lap and behave.

Ooo, Ooo, Look What I Found! vol.5

A mound protrudes from our lawn. A hole leads far below into blackness. Where did it come from? Perhaps tiny tectonic plates? Enter answer here _______________.

Behind the barn, the monsters live. With long slender legs and flashy torsos that say "Don't eat me!" No problem there, buddy. I think I'll go play Zelda. You are less scary in video games.

Face-Off!

I think the dogs are still trying to size each other up. While Tonka still spends some of his time barking at Duke (from a safe distance, I might add), Juniper has taken a more direct approach. Duke couldn't care less. What a mellow dog. On one side is Fight or Flight Juni. On the other, Cool Cucumber Duke.

It's funny to see Duke sneeze and watch Juni and Tonka run for cover!

Flying sure makes a dog thirsty

Brad and Michelle's dog Duke is going to be staying with us for the summer. Matthan went and picked him up from the airport last night. When they got home I got Duke some food and water. He wasn't hungry but boy was he thirsty. Within about 15 minutes he drained the bowl four times. FOUR TIMES! That is more than both of my dogs drink in an entire day. Needless to say the rest of our evening went something like this: "Duke, wanna go outside? Outside? Matthan, Have you taken Duke out recently? I think it is about time to take Duke out again.

Flowers from Ohio

These beautiful flowers are a little piece of Ohio and the house that Matthan grew up in. When Mom moved, we got some of the peonies that were planted in the backyard. We carried them carefully to Virginia in a cardboard box nestled in the trunk. We promptly planted them and they wilted and died away. Imagine our surprise and delight when they came up this year! Thanks Mom, for the beautiful flowers and the reminder of home.

Over the river and through the tunnel to Grandmother's house we went. The little girl laughed to see such a shell. And the bunnies hopped into the woods. (It must be turtle season.)

Chuck-a-turtle

The other day, during my daily walk with Raina to get the mail, we saw something strange.

A car stopped in the middle of the road, and a woman jumped out of her car, ran to the back of the vehicle and picked up something on the street. After a little flinch, she hurled the object way up in the air and it landed in the side ditch. "What the hay?," says I. Raina and I took a little walk to see what it was. There we found a little turtle. "Wow, what a humanitarian. She tries to save the turtle by chucking it as far as she could throw. Weird." And then the pieces fit together as the little turtle, turned it's body slowly around, as gave us a determined SNAP!

Amazing Azaleas

Here are some pictures of our azalea bushes. The blossoms didn't last very long. They did their thing and now they are gone. The poor bees didn't have a chance.

I hear the bee population is mysteriously disappearing. It is believed that Albert Einstein once said "If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man."

Brenda's parents don't wind their hose no more. Two little eggs needed the hose box. One week later four more. Hmmm... One egg, two egg, red egg, blue egg.

Happy Hay Day!!

Hey, you may say its May Day, but I say nay. Its Hay Day!

This morning the farmer across the street rolled up his hay. I'm sure there are probably some special farmer words for this process but I'm not sure what they are. Here are some things I noticed:

1. He started very early.
2. It took a long time.
3. The hay rolls are real big.

Raina and I had a blast watching his progress throughout the day.

On a related note, there has been a lot of hay fever going around. I have had bad allergies lately. And so has Tonka, the poor guy. I took him into the vet today and they gave me some eye drops for him. So, twice a day for the foreseeable future Matthan and I get to try to put eye drops into a squirmy pug. I can't wait.
